Elon Musk has announced the upcoming launch of X Money, a payment service designed to become a core part of the rapidly expanding X ecosystem. The move aligns with Musk’s long-standing ambition to transform X (formerly Twitter) into an all-in-one super-app.
The announcement followed a major upgrade to the platform’s messaging suite, now rebranded as XChat.
A New Payments Layer for the X Ecosystem
According to Musk, the platform has just rolled out a completely new communication stack featuring encrypted messages, audio and video calls, and advanced file sharing:
“X has just released a fully new communications stack with encrypted messages, audio/video calls, and file transfer. […] X will become the everything app.”
He also invited developers to join the team and contribute to the expanding ecosystem.
XChat: The Biggest Messaging Upgrade to Date
Entrepreneur and commentator Mario Nawfal described the rollout as the platform’s “largest messaging update yet.”
He emphasized that X has moved to XChat, a unified inbox combining both regular and fully encrypted conversations:
“No more scattered menus. No more searching for an ‘encrypted’ tab. Everything is in one clean channel.”
XChat introduces E2E encryption for messages, media, files, and even voice/video calls — an approach Musk calls “Bitcoin-style encryption.”
The update builds on earlier releases from June 2025, when X first introduced the new messaging app with disappearing chats, file sharing, group functionality, and more.
Nawfal predicts further expansion, including cross-device syncing and deeper integration with future super-app features:
“X has made messaging modern again.”
Musk’s Broader Strategy: The X Super-App Vision
Earlier this year, Musk transferred ownership of social network X to his AI startup xAI, valuing the company at $80 billion and X at $33 billion (including $12 billion in debt).
In October, Musk became the first individual in history to reach a $500 billion net worth, driven by gains in Tesla stock and stakes in SpaceX and xAI.
Meanwhile, Musk has launched Grokipedia, an open-source knowledge platform positioned as an independent alternative to Wikipedia. Users can edit entries, but the final decision rests with the Grok AI model — designed to ensure, in Musk’s words, “the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
